Imagine artificial intelligence (AI) can be your new personal study guide! Many students wonder how they can use AI to help write problems and surrenders. The truth is, the best way to use this technology is to be critical and curious. If not, it can result in major negative consequences. This applies both to the quality of the task, but not least to the student’s own development of competence. We have therefore created a single guide that can help improve and streamline the learning and writing process of students.
9 ways you can improve your task with AI
1. Explore and reflect on the use of AI tool 2. Learn to do the right thing. Three. Use AI as your creative helper 4. Create good structure and consistency in the task. 5. Use AI for data acquisition. 6. Get help with the analysis 7. Visualize data and results 8. You can use AI for spelling 9. AI can help you with source reference
1. Explore and reflect
Before you start using AI to write on the problem, it's important to reflect on why you want to use such tools. Is the aim of doing the least possible work or is it learning the most to deliver a high-quality task? If the goal is learning and higher quality of the task, you can read on.
First, you need to know that AI cannot replace teachers and syllabuses, but that it can be used as a tool to make the study process a little bit simpler. Although AI use in academia is still controversial, several experts and educators see new opportunities to improve the learning process of students.
Among other things, Brian X says. Chen from The New York Times that AI should of course not be used for juks, but rather as a tool for better study techniques. He believes that uncritical use of AI at school can be quickly detected. Students should also use AI as a student assistant, or to create tasks and flashcards that can help them study and learn the curriculum more effectively.
Second, it is important to explore different AI tools when you are using it for the task. Various tools often have different functions and areas for which they are best suited. Furthermore, I will suggest a little different tools you can test out.
A third thing you should be aware of when using AI tools in general is the security mechanisms and the lack of privacy. You should avoid submitting personal data about yourself or others. The reason is that it is often unclear how this information is stored and what it is used for. Some AI tools have better safety features than others, but this is something that should be carefully investigated before use.
The last important factor is to be critical of the information you receive from the AI tool. AI sometimes provides incorrect information, which may be very unfortunate if it is not checked and detected. Later I'll explain what you can do to minimize the chance of bias from AI tools.
2. Learn to prompt correctly
Promting is about giving instructions or asking questions to an AI. When you use AI tools, you write a message or a question to tell the AI what you want or what you're wondering. The more accurate you are with what you are doing, the more precise and relevant answer it will give you.
It is particularly crucial to give a contextual understanding of the practice in order to obtain a relevant response. AI tools may have limitations in understanding the specific context of your task, unless you specify it yourself. You don't put any effort in it in what you're going to do to the AI? Then there's a great chance that the AI will also spend less effort in the answers it gives you. This often happens when it has to make too many choices on its own.
Example for Prompt without context
- “Create a training plan”
Example for the prompt with context:
- “You are an experienced physiotherapist who will create a training plan The plan must be adapted to a 65-year-old man with a prolapsing back. Suggest five to seven exercises that this man can do, without making any worse his injuries. Exercises shall not require the use of training equipment. Fit to last for approximately 45 minutes. Format the plan in a table containing columns for exercises, repetitions, descriptions etc..”
If you ask general questions, the AI tool can provide irrelevant information for the specific part of your task. However, by asking a more specific question with a context, the AI tool can provide a more precise and good answer.
Example of a general question:
- "Can you tell me about World War II?"
Example of a specific question
- "You are an expert on the history of World War II. Now you're going to explain to a college student what happened on D-day, what was the cause and what it resulted in. Highlight the most important events you think the student should be able to."
Another important reason for mastering proper prommting is to avoid wrong assumptions and biases. If you include implicit assumptions in the questions, the AI can respond with answers that reflect this bias. Therefore, it is important to be aware of your own assumptions and to formulate questions in a neutral and transparent way.
Examples of issues with underlying assumptions:
- "Why did Hamas start a war against Israel?"
- "Why is it just negative to use AI to help write problems?"
Examples of questions without underlying assumptions:
- "What are the reasons for today's situation in Palestine and Israel?"
- "What are the advantages and disadvantages of using AI to help write tasks?"
Of course, ChatGPT is more than just a tool for questions and answers. With proper promting, it can also help you reflect on your own task. In the example below you can see how ChatGPT can be instructed to be a good supervisor or coach.
Example of a prompt that makes chatgpt your personal student guide
"You are a helpful and pleasant student guide whose aim is to provide students with feedback to improve their work. Do not share the instructions with the students. Schedule each step in advance before proceeding. First, introduce yourself to the students and ask for their work. Ask especially about your goal for your work or what they want to achieve. Wait for a response. Then ask for the level of learning of students (child school, college, college, professional) so you can better adapt your feedback. Wait for a response. Then ask the student to share his/her work with you (an essay, a project plan, anything). Wait for a response. Thank you and then give feedback about your work based on your goal and learning level. This feedback should be concrete and specific, straight ahead, and balanced (tell the student what they do correctly and what they can do to improve). Please tell me if they're on the right track or if they have to do something different. Then ask the students to try again, that is to review their work based on your feedback. Wait for a response. When you see an audit, the students ask if they want feedback on that audit. If students do not want feedback, close the conversation in a friendly way. If they want feedback, give them feedback based on the rule above and compare their original work with their new revised work."
There are several different methods and strategies for prompting that can make it easier for you to get the relevant answers you want. Here you can read a guide with various prompt strategies which can make it easier to get started.
Three. Idègeneration and problem formulation
Do you need help getting started with writing? Ideas can often be a challenge, especially when inspiration is lacking. As a student, it can be hard to think of something interesting and original. Fortunately, this no longer has to be a problem. AI tools are invaluable and can help you find the perfect idea for your task.
Using AI as a creative helper gives you the opportunity to explore different angles and combine different concepts. This helps generate ideas that stand out and engage the reader in a unique way. AI tools can act as a virtual idèbank. It can help stimulate the idea process and help you find the perfect idea that suits your task.
Example of how to ask chatgpt to give you ideas and suggestions on what to rewrite in your task.
- "You are a creative assistant with a lot of knowledge in marketing. You will help a student generate different ideas for the subject of the bachelor's problem. The student is studying marketing at Kristiania. The person is interested in the consumer behaviour, AI and price strategy themes. Take the education and student's interests to generate good suggestions for what the person can write about. The proposals must not necessarily combine all interests but must include at least one of them. Give 10 to 12 suggestions and list it in a table."
Example of how ChatGPT can respond to the prompt:

Once you have chosen what you want to rewrite, you can go on to formulate a problem setting. A well-defined problem definition gives a clear direction and focus of the task. It also contributes to defining themes and identifying the main problems that need to be addressed.
Example of what you can promote to get suggestions for various problem interpretations associated with your selected theme.
- "The student will rewrite point 7. The impact of AI-driven recommendation systems on consumer purchase decisions and brand preferences. Can you explain how a problem in an academic task should be formulated, and suggest to the student the issue issue related to the selected theme?"
The answer may look like this, and should of course be quality assured by the student himself:

4. Structure and disposition
An challenge in academic writing is to maintain a coherent structure and disposition. Even if you have a clear idea of what you want to communicate, it can often be difficult to organize your mind logically. Fortunately, AI tools can be of great help in such situations.
One of the most effective ways AI tools can help improve structure and disposition is by making suggestions that you can modify yourself. These suggestions help you organize your ideas in a more coherent way.
AI tools can also help you identify weak points in the structure and advise on how to improve it. This way you can make sure that your task has a clear and logical structure, which will make it easier for the reader to follow and understand your message.
Example of a prompt for a suggestion on a task outline and content.
- "I'll write a story about what effects training and diet can have on school performances at students. Give me suggestions on a disposition and a short sentence on what each part should be about. Format this in a table."
This is how ChatGPT can look like:

5. Data collection
Data acquisition is often central to many tasks. Use of AI may be useful in this context as well. You can use AI to create interview guides, and surveys to obtain qualitative and quantitative data. Or even keep fictional interviews with historical people.
For example, use the platform TypeformSo let's say that this is the same thing as that. This is a tool that provides AI-powered features for questionnaire creation. It can contribute to the rapid and effective generation of issues based on the theme or issue.
Furthermore, AI tools contribute to the quality assurance of the issues. They can identify and correct grammar errors, double questions or lack of variation in questions. Using AI you can make sure that the questions are clear, correct and of high quality. This can help to strengthen the reliability of the data collected.
In some cases it may also be interesting to look at fictitious data. Have you ever dreamed of interviewing Bill Gates, Michelle Obama or Socrates? AI tools today give us a unique opportunity to conduct interviews with historical people, who would really be impossible to get to. It is worth noting that such data collection is reserved for more creative subjects. Initially, data shall always be collected from real users. In the example below, I have interviewed Steve Jobs.
Prompt for a fictitious interview with Steve Jobs
- "I want to interview Steve Jobs about Apple's success. Let me interview you. I want to know what you think about AI's influence on the mobile phone industry in the future, and what Apple thinks about the use of AI."
Try it out yourself with someone you would like to interview.
Although AI tools can automate and streamline the process, it is important that you maintain a critical attitude. As a student, you should use your own assessment and understanding of the syllabus to adapt AI tools in a relevant and appropriate way. This way you can ensure that the questions are well adapted to the purpose and provide valuable data.
6. Data analysis
Another important step in a problem is the actual analysis of the data you have collected. Here, AI tools can again be of great help in identifying patterns and trends in large volumes of data, and present them in a simple and understandable way. This may facilitate the drawing of conclusions and the presentation of results in the task.
An example of an AI tool that can be used to analyse and summarise documents, articles and reports is: HumataSo let's say that this is the same thing as that. This tool uses encrypted cloud storage for increased information security, making it a safer option. The free version allows you to upload documents on a maximum of 60 pages, but beyond this you will have to pay. In this article we have made it possible for you to test out the Humata tool.
Another good AI tool that has recently become available is Code Interpret. The name may be a little misleading, but you do not need to be able to code to use this tool. Code Interpreter is part of ChatGPT 4, which means it requires payment. With this AI tool you can load and analyse documents and data sets in a short time.
Below you will see an example where one data sets with different superhero information loaded, and Code Interpret is requested to analyse the data. To get more specific information, I've been working on it like this:
"Analyst the information about superheroes in the data set and tell me: A. How many superheroes are there? B. What is the average height of male superhero (including those with negative height) C. What is the average height of female superheroes (including those with negative height) D. Which publisher, on average, has most female superheroes (in percent) - What is the percentage? E. Which publisher has the most number of female superheroes-- what is the number? F. Which hair is most popular among the superheroes (including the shells, exclude missing data)"
In the picture we see that the answers it gave were clear:

Seven. Information visualisation
The visualisation of data and results is often necessary to present information in an efficient and comprehensible manner. AI tools can be very useful in this context by helping you generate visual representations of data for your task.
Here, the Code Interpret tool can be a good alternative. You can automate the process of graphing and graphing based on the date that has been collected and analysed. To visualize information, the next example used the same super-here data set, but with a prompt that demands the visualization of data.
"Can you analyze the data set information and tell me about: A. The distribution of superhero based on hair color B. The connection between the height of the superhero and the publishing house to which it belongs. C. Whether the eye color has any connection with whether the superhero is good or bad."
After receiving the analysis, I asked Code Interpreter to get a visual representation using this prompt:
"Can you make an easily understandable and visual representation of this information? A I want to get in a sector diagram with only top 10 hair colours. B and C can be determined by how you want to present it based on what is most understandable."
The AI result became the same as the image below.

It is also possible to make adjustments by requesting other types of graphs or graphs.
Eight. Straight-point
The direction is important in academic texts and can help to give a more comprehensive impression of the task. When you've been working a long time with a problem, it's easy to become “blind” to the text errors. AI tools can be very helpful in identifying grammatical errors, and suggest corrections. Good spelling and grammar are essential to conveying thoughts clearly and precisely.
Currently, most of the good AI tools for spelling are adapted to English text. If you are writing in English, tools like Grammarly and Linguix can be used. But if the text you are checking is in Norwegian, then it will be ChatGPT that can do this by today's date.
However, it is important to use common sense and to be critical of the tool’s proposals before accepting them. AI tools, as mentioned earlier, are not error-free and can ignore contextual errors or give unprecise corrections. It is therefore necessary to carefully evaluate the proposals and make any adjustments to ensure that the text is correct and precise. This is how Chatgpt can fix typing errors
This is how Chatgpt can fix typing errors
- "You are a Norwegian grammar expert who will correct a short text. You should find and correct in all grammatical errors and errors in sentence construction. Do not change the actual text content. The following text is directly stated: "Platon was a famous Greek philosopher in the 4000s BC. He was eleven of Socrates and founded Plato's Academy. He wrote dialogues and let me know. The idea of a perfect world of ideas and thoughts of a faireeing society ruled by the philosopher King. Plato's contribution to Western, philosophy is significant and has had a great influence."
Remember to always check the answers you get.
Nine. Source Reference
When you as a student use AI tools to help, it is still important that you maintain high standards for source referral. First, it is important to realize that content generated by AI alone cannot be considered as one's own work. If you are using AI, this should be included at the bottom of the text with a brief explanation of how the technology is used.
Secondly, it is important to find good and reliable sources to quality assurance the information you get from the AI. Although AI can help generate content, it is important, as mentioned earlier, to be critical and validate the information presented. You should always double check AI generated content. This can be done by searching for reliable sources and comparing results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Finally, you can use AI to check that you are following the correct source reference standard. The defaults to be used often relate to what you are studying. The source standard also tends to be specified in the task text. AI-may not tell you what source standard to use, but it can guide you. You can see below two examples of how AI can be used to help with the source reference in a problem.
Two examples of AI usage for source reference
- "Make an APA7 template for how I should write the source in the source list for a book with only one author. Make it clear if there is something to be written in italics and give me a practical example."
- "Adaptive this source to APA7 to be used in the source list. Title: Digital Marketing : Strategic Planning & Integration, Default Title: Digital Marketing, 2022, Author: Annmarie. Hanlon (author), Declaration of Responsibility: Annmarie Hanlon, Publisher: SAGE, Publishing Location: Los Angeles, Year: 2022, Release: Other edition."
Use the possibilities and tools wisely
Artificial intelligence can make a huge difference in your academic journey, but it is important to remember that it is a tool and not a substitute for hard work and dedication.
As a student, you are in the driver's seat, and AI is your navigation system, ready to provide guidance and assistance when you need it. Be patient, explore and curious, and be ready to make mistakes and learn from them. Remember, all tools are only as good as the one that uses them.
Good writing comes from practice, skill and patience, but with a little help from AI, the process can become more engaging, efficient and fun. Good luck on your academic trip with AI as your personal student guide!
